What’s trending in the UK glazing market for 2026?

If you look at the UK glazing market today, something has changed. We aren’t just seeing people renovate for a fresh look anymore, we are seeing an investment in quality. With a 2026 market valuation hitting £2.35 billion, homeowners are playing a much longer game.

At Atlas Aluminium, we have noticed that the ‘quick fix’ is being phased out. People are now using premium aluminium systems as a financial investment, protecting themselves against new energy rules and unpredictable future fuel costs. We wanted to look at where the market is heading in 2026 and assess why the ‘buy once’ philosophy is dominating the market this year.

The RMI sector remains resilient

While the broader construction sector has faced its share of headlines, the Private Housing Repair, Maintenance and Improvement (RMI) sector remains remarkably strong.

According to the latest ONS data, the UK private RMI market reached an all-time peak of £37.6bn in 2024. While 2025 saw a natural rebalancing, the market has stabilised at levels significantly higher than the pre-pandemic era. In fact, current output is 35.8% higher than in 2019, proving that the appetite for high-quality home improvement is not slowing down.

Aluminium is on the rise

The most interesting shift is the rise in aluminium. While interest in traditional uPVC is in a long-term decline, Google Trends data shows that interest in aluminium windows hit a five-year high in 2025, jumping 25.7% year-on-year.

It makes sense. Homeowners have realised that a plastic window is often a ten-year sticking plaster, whereas a high-grade aluminium system is a 40-year asset. They want the ‘buy once, buy right’ security that only aluminium provides.

The energy deadline is influencing purchase decisions

There is also a very real deadline looming. The government’s 2026 EPC reforms mean rental properties need to hit a Rating of C or better. Since windows are often the weak link in a home’s insulation, we are seeing a huge surge in demand for triple-glazed aluminium units.

Landlords and homeowners are racing to meet the 0.8 W/m²K U-value targets suggested by the Future Homes Standard. It is a smart move, jumping from a D to a C rating can add up to 10% to a property’s value, according to Rightmove.

It isn’t just about the money, however. There is a practical environmental benefit that is starting to matter to the 60% of UK households who are now prioritising green materials.

Aluminium is essentially a permanent resource. It can be recycled over and over again without ever losing its strength or quality. In fact, recycling it uses 95% less energy than making it from scratch, which is why it is becoming the go-to for anyone looking to build a more efficient home. You get a material that is tough enough to last a lifetime, but won’t end up in a landfill at the end of it.

Sliding doors are becoming more popular

The 2026 home is getting sleeker. Sliding doors have officially overtaken bifolds as the most searched door style in the UK, growing by 11.5% in the last year alone.

Homeowners are increasingly asking for the thinnest possible frames to maximise natural light. This move toward panoramic living connects indoor spaces with the outdoors, turning the garden into a year-round visual asset.

What does this tell us about the market?

The data shows a much more sophisticated consumer. Search intent for premium glazing spikes by 56% every January, which tells us that the planning season is now a serious phase of the project. People are moving away from off-the-shelf products and toward bespoke, architectural solutions.

The most successful renovations of 2026 are those that prioritise quality over convenience. Whether driven by new energy rules or a desire for superior design, the UK is officially investing in the ‘forever home.’ At Atlas Aluminium, we provide windows and doors that meet this demand for longevity and style.
