Frequently asked questions
What is the lifespan of a single aluminium door?
Our Alitherm residential doors are made from high-quality aluminium, built on Smart aluminium systems that make them incredibly durable. Typically, a single aluminium door can last for 30 to 50 years, even in extreme weather conditions. This is considerably longer than the 10-year life expectancy on a uPVC door before maintenance is require, and their added aesthetic and energy efficiency provide extra value on your investment.
Which is better, aluminium or uPVC residential doors?
Aluminium doors generally provide better value for money as they last longer and provide all the same quality assurances as a uPVC door. While aluminium itself is known as a conductor rather than an insulator, our Alitherm range uses thermal break technology. This means a barrier is created between cold and hot air, keeping your home warm and reducing energy bills.
You may choose uPVC doors for their relatively low cost, but doors framed with aluminium are aesthetically pleasing, secure and weatherproof, lasting up to 30 to 50 years.
Do aluminium doors swell in heat?
Like many metals, aluminium can expand in high temperatures. However, this expansion is minimal and will not affect the performance of your front or patio door. It will still open and close as usual without warping.
Our Alitherm 400 aluminium residential doors are made with thermal break technology, which minimises heat transfer. This helps to maintain temperatures and lessen the risk of expansion, while also promoting energy efficiency in your home.
