Frequently asked questions
Are aluminium windows better than uPVC?
Aluminium window frames offer many benefits over uPVC. A common argument for UPVC is thermal efficiency, as aluminium is generally a conductive material. However, thanks to advanced thermal break technology, all of our bespoke aluminium frames create a barrier between cold and warm air, helping to conserve energy.
While aluminium is generally more expensive than uPVC, it is also more durable and longer-lasting, ideal for inclement weather conditions. This also offers extra security benefits, and our Alitherm products can be upgraded to superior PAS24 for peace of mind.
From a design perspective, aluminium is slimmer and more compact, allowing for simple installation, double or triple glazing, and larger panes. This creates a better finished aesthetic, allowing for more natural light to enter a room.
What is the life expectancy of aluminium windows?
Our contemporary aluminium window frames can last up to 30 years thanks to hardwearing materials and modern manufacturing methods. They can last up to 10 years longer than traditional uPVC window frames.
Can aluminium windows be double-glazed?
Bespoke aluminium windows from Atlas can be double-glazed as standard. Our aluminium window frames come with 28mm double glazing as standard. Our Alitherm range can also be upgraded to 40mm triple glazing if desired.
Can aluminium windows be energy-efficient?
Aluminium frame windows can be energy-efficient. While aluminium is not known for being an insulative material, our thermal break technology creates a barrier between warm air inside and cool air outside. This means that our windows are capable of reaching a Window Energy Rating of B as a minimum, all the way up to A+, depending on the product you choose.
What’s the difference between flush and casement windows?
Flush windows are a style of casement window. The main difference between flush and casement windows comes down to aesthetics. Both are weather-resistant and energy-efficient, but they vary in design.
A casement window is ‘lipped’, which means the parts that can be opened will protrude from the frame. Flush windows, meanwhile, lie flat against the wall. Generally, a flush window is considered more modern, while casement windows are more traditional.
Case refers to how the window opens (hinged at the side and swinging outward), while flush refers to how the sash sits within the frame.
What colour options are available?
All products in our aluminium window frames range come with stock colours – black, white, grey and grey-on-white. You can also choose single or dual KL or RAL colours for a more varied palette, including hundreds of different shades.
