Where can bifold doors be used?

Folding aluminium doors can be used both internally and externally, ideal for both domestic (residential) settings and smaller commercial properties. Internally, they can blend two rooms together by maximising natural light, for example, in a kitchen and lounge area.

Aluminium bifold patio doors also make an excellent choice for exterior projects, giving you full flexibility to open up a space and configure airflow with multiple panes. All of our Visofold 1000 bi fold doors have been tested for extreme weather conditions, offering a versatile solution for modern homes and offices.

How energy efficient are bifold doors?

Aluminium folding doors are an energy-efficient option thanks to ‘thermal breaks’. While aluminium is a heat-conductive material, thermal breaks help to make it insulative, thereby maintaining heat within the home.

Every one of our bespoke aluminium bifold doors is made with polyamide, which separates the two sides of the frame and breaks the conducting process. This enhances the ‘U’ value – a measure of how effectively a material can insulate a building. All of our bifold doors meet Document L regulations, and can be double or triple glazed based on your preferences.

Energy efficiency doesn’t come at the cost of ventilation, either. Trickle vents help to regulate air flow without heat loss. Lightweight, sturdy and weatherproof, aluminium bifold doors can also be recycled in the long term, so you’re making the right choice for both your property and the planet.

What are trickle vents, and do I need them?

Trickle vents are a helpful feature of made to measure aluminium bifold doors that manage airflow. These are background ventilators that are fitted within door frames to allow a continuous flow of air, even when the doors are closed. 

You can open and close these slits as you wish, but for maximum ventilation without heat loss, they should be kept open at all times. Trickle vents are becoming more popular thanks to amendments to the Building Regulations (England) in 2022, known as Approved Document F.

As modern homes become more airtight, these regulations help to maintain indoor air quality, reducing the risk of mould from moisture buildup. Approved Document F requires continuous airflow in residential and commercial buildings, made possible through background ventilators or trickle vents.

To maximise ventilation in your property without heat loss, we would recommend adding trickle vents to your design.

How secure are bifold doors?

Our aluminium bifold doors are extremely secure thanks to rigorous testing for weather conditions and intrusion. A multi-point shootbolt locking system provides maximum protection against intruders, including hooks and anti-lift bolts.

Every bespoke product is certified with the BSI Kitemark, with hinges, locks and handles tested to BS4873/PAS24 for quality.
