Frequently asked questions
What is the life expectancy of a flat glass rooflight?
Using high-quality design and materials, flat glass rooflights should last for many years. Our Atlas aluminium rooflights are designed for longevity, with a 10-year seal and easy-clean coating warranty as standard.
What is the minimum U-value of a rooflight?
UK building regulations aim to make sure that buildings are built to last and energy efficient. As such, they set minimum standards that homes and their components must achieve.
The current lowest acceptable U values (describing thermal performance) are 2.2 w/m2K for rooflights and 1.6 w/m2K for other roof windows. As such, using 1.0 w/m2K double glazing as standard and achieving overall U values of 1.4 w/m2K, Atlas flat glass rooflights perform well above the required level.
Do you need planning permission for a rooflight?
Most standard residential flat rooflights won’t require planning permission. However, this can vary based on factors such as whether the planned work will raise the height of your existing roof. It’s always best to check before starting work.
