Roof lantern glazing plays a critical role in comfort and performance, which is why Atlas offers advanced glass options engineered for overhead use.

Solar Control Glass

Uses special coatings or tints to reflect and filter the sun’s heat (infrared radiation) while letting in natural daylight, keeping buildings cooler in summer, reducing glare, cutting air conditioning costs.

Self-Cleaning Glass

Has a special transparent coating (usually titanium dioxide) that uses UV light from the sun to break down organic dirt and grime, and then uses rain (or water) to wash it away, leaving fewer streaks due to its hydrophilic (water-spreading) properties.

Our aluminium window systems meet these standards as a minimum, with some products offering upgrades or higher specifications:

As standard, our glass keeps heat out, insulates, blocks 91% of harmful UV rays, reduces fading, and stays cleaner for longer with built-in self-cleaning technology
Tested up to a uniformly distributed load of 3.5 KN/m2 for strong performance
All double-glazed units incorporate toughened safety glass, manufactured to the highest British and European Standards, accredited to BS EN 1279 parts 2 & 3 and BS EN 12150
Industry-leading ridge and rafter U Values – double glazing rafter 1.5 W/m2K as standard and rafter U Value as low as 0.9 W/m2K with triple glazing

Answers to common questions about roof lantern design, performance and installation.

Roof lanterns can get condensation due to the temperature differences between the air inside and outside your property. However, high-quality design and materials help reduce the chances of condensation occurring.

At Atlas, our double or triple glazing achieves excellent thermal performance, while our insulated rafters help reduce cold spots, all lowering the chances of condensation.

Roof lanterns built with quality materials should last for many, many years. At Atlas, we design and build our roof lanterns to the highest standards, making sure you can enjoy yours for as long as possible.

Roof lanterns elevate a flat roof through raised and angled windows and the supporting structure. Meanwhile, flat glass rooflights and skylights lie flush with your ceiling without elevating upwards.

Yes, you can absolutely add a roof lantern to an existing roof. Simply pick a style and size that suits your dimensions and requirements, then speak to a roof lantern expert who can help you plan and arrange installation.
